Paris Weekend Getaway - Day 1

The beautiful view from the roof of the Arc de Triumphe
Oh Paris. The city of love. The city of stairs (seriously, I've never walked more). With the weekend off we set out to see a city that was near the top of both of our "to see" lists. We caught an early morning train from Luxembourg on Friday and needed to return Sunday afternoon. We had about 2 1/2 days there and a LOT to do. We set out with a list of things we wanted to see, and a list of thing we wanted to eat (because thats just how we roll). For 60 hours we soaked in everything we could of Parisian culture including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triumphe, Champs Elysees, the Louvre, the Lock Bridge, croissants, macaroons, french wine, Sacre Course, Notre Dame, and Moulin Rouge. Whoa. I know.

Lets start with day 1. The first major spot we found was the Arc de Triumphe. Arguably the most famous sight in Paris aside from the Eiffel Tower. Surrounded by the famous 5 lane round about, I think this landmark has been featured in every single movie and TV show that has anything to do with Paris. In person, it is absolutely gigantic. The view from the top and the story behind the arc it is absolutely beautiful.

Then we finished off the night strolling up and down Champs Elysees and window shopping the incredible stores, like the 6 story flagship Louis Vuitton. We popped into Laduree for some macaroons before dinner, and they were without a doubt the best I have ever had. At dinner, we checked an item off our "to eat" list with a croque monsier. It was delicious, of course.

No night in Paris is complete without a trip to the Eiffel. Plus our apartment was in walking distance, so it would be silly to pass it up. We got there just in time to see it "sparkle," and it was even more beautiful in person then I imagined.

Only one way to the top!
